WWU License Plates Support Student Scholarships
The Department of Licensing gives $28 per plate, per year, back to Western. During the 2008/09 academic year, the Western license plate program generated approximately $20,000 that the Alumni Association distributed to students through scholarships.


Here's What You Need to Know To Get a WWU Plate

  • Fill out the application for each vehicle (sorry…no motorcycles).
  • The application must include the vehicle owner's information, and be signed by the registered owner
  • Return the application to the Western Alumni Association:

    • Drop off:
      709 High St., Bellingham, WA (M-F, 8-5)

Important Info - Please Read Carefully

  • The Alumni Association funds only the initial cost associated with getting a WWU license plate (a total of $47.75 to cover the setup fee for a specialty plate)
  • Your WWU license plate is renewed annually when you next renew your tabs for an additional $30/year (remember, $28 of it comes back to Western scholarships!).
  • Are your tabs going to expire soon? If so, renew your tabs BEFORE you send us your application.
  • Your new WWU license plate will be mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner.
  • Allow 6-8 weeks for processing.
